Project Profile

Project Namoona Rail Loop Extension Location Summerland Way, Casino, NSW Client Transport Express Joint Venture Contract Value $1.8m Construction Period December 2006 to April 2007

Namoona Rail Loop Extension

Description

The works in this project were undertaken concurrently with the Braunstone Rail Loop Extension (Project 7). CivilTeam added value on both projects due to work staged and completed simultaneously, providing cost savings to the client.

This project included removal of a bridge and its replacement with a culvert structure, civil works for new signalling structures, gabion walls, placement of structural and capping materials, relocation of existing services, and site clearing then subsequent revegetation.

Works

  • Site clearing and installation of environmental controls
  • Bulk earthworks
  • Gabion wall construction
  • Removal of bridge superstructure on mainline and replacement with a culvert structure
  • Placement of structural and capping materials
  • Drainage works
  • Civil works for new signalling
  • Safety fencing
  • Relocation of existing services

Challenges

  • Safety management—interfacingwith trains
  • Environmental management

Our Management

During the course of the works, CivilTeam identified significant areas of unsound embankment foundation and base course material. These were removed and replaced and the works continued. Despite these latent conditions, CivilTeam still managed to complete the works ahead of contract practical completion date.

Value Adding

CivilTeam’s partnership approach accelerated the project works and delivered a positive project outcome. After the issues raised were addressed and the scope of works was renegotiated, CivilTeam completed the project 6 weeks ahead of schedule.
