Upgrade Works to Two Aerodromes, NT & WA

Description

This project was part of the Australian Governments Regional Aviation Access Program – upgrading aerodromes in remote and isolated communities. Theses airstrips are crucial infrastructure for the communities they serve. The scope of works under this contract delivered the successful completion of three aerodrome upgrades in Western Australia and the Northern Territory.

Works

Key elements undertaken varied between sites, but included:

  • Maintenance at all three sites
  • Widening of the runway at Delmore Downs and Billiluna,
  • The extension and widening of the runway at Ampilatwatja.

Challenges

  • Remote locations with difficult access
  • Indigenous Relations
  • Working on a live aerodrome - open to live traffic at all times

Our Management

CivilTeam endeavoured to have as little impact on the remote communities as possible, to reach satisfactory compromises where needed, and to involve locals in the project when appropriate (e.g. labour).

Constant communication was maintained with essential services and works were planned to ensure that at all times the project team were able to have the landing strip fully serviceable within 10 minutes.
