Balgo Hill and Kiwirrkurra Aerodrome Upgrades

Description

CivilTeam was awarded this contract on the basis of the client’s positive experience of CivilTeam on previous outback aerodrome works:- Project 45, Project 36, and Project 34.

Works

The work undertaken varied between sites, but included:

  • Pavement rehabilitation
  • Clearing, grubbing and de-vegetation inside gradients, take-off and approach zones
  • Resurvey and set out of new runway markers (cones, gables, wind indicators and solar lighting)
  • Lighting installation and commissioning (floodlights, wind indicator)
  • Stock-proof Fencing
  • Road and access track construction

Challenges

  • Remote Location
  • Difficult Access - supply logistics
  • Indigenous Relations

Our Management

Our long association of working with the local indigenous councils has ensured our site teams are experienced in working with a diverse range of stakeholders and groups including community members, business leaders and industry operators. Our teams can then deliver an integrated and seamless solution across the full spectrum of the issues associated with remote access sites.

Value Add

Specific upgrade instructions were not provided in advance for these aerodromes. The team conducted site inspections to develop a scope of works and minimise variations. This was invaluable to the planning of this project as the two airfields are 800km apart.
