Goonyella to Abbot Point Expansion
Description
This $1.1 Billion JV between QLD Rail and Leighton Contractors completed the final rail link between Goonyella and Abbot Point for Coal Connect.
The railway had to cross three steel water pipelines servicing the mine and Moranbah. CivilTeam was contracted to protect the pipeline crossings which included installation, testing and commissioning of the pipeline, concrete and earthworks, and access points.
CivilTeam won this contract due to on the basis of an innovative methodology that avoided four weeks of water main shutdown and a greatly accelerated program.

Our Management
Innovation in design and planning by CivilTeam meant that:
- None of the water pipes needed to be decommissioned at all—whereas the original design allowed for a 4 wk shutdown
- The site team were able to continue working during site evacuation during rain
- Works completed in half the allocated time (excluding days lost to rain)
