Fred Haigh Dam Spillway Upgrade
Description
The Fred Haigh Dam is critical infrastructure for the surrounding sugar cane and tourism industries. These works were part of SunWater’s dam safety upgrade program, which included the spillway upgrade and raising the dam wall.
This contract included road works and the refurbishment and replacement of guard rail on the spillway crest of the Fred Haigh Dam, located near Gin Gin, QLD.
The program requied 600m of fill, prime seal and asphalt, and the installation of guardrail along1 km along the crest of the dam.

- Construction of specially layered earthworks including excavation, formation construction and selected material zone

Challenges
- Environmental Management of erosion and sediment control
- Rock found within the embankment led to issues during installation of the guard rail

Regular communication updates with project stakeholders at each stage of works ensured the project was delivered on time and within budget.
Value Adding
This ten week project was completed one week ahead of contract practical completion date, and within budget.
Project works were accelerated by working closely with all stakeholders.
