Lake Vermont Spur Line
Description
CivilTeam completed the construction of two electrical transformer stations for a new rail loop/spur line for the Lake Vermont Mine.
This was part of a major upgrade to the Lake Vermont coal mining operations, situated south west of Mackay, QLD.
Works
- Foundation earthworks for concrete pad and poles
- Reinforced concrete foundations for transformer, power poles and light poles
- Drainage works
- Electrical pits and conduit works
- Electrical earthing grids for substations
- Security fencing
Challenges
- Very short start-up notice, and tight time frame
- Working adjacent to live railway tracks, with strict security measures
- Resourcing in a relatively remote area
- Management of multiple subcontractors
- Environmental Management
Our Management
Detailed planning and consultation with project stakeholders ensured timing and resource challenges were overcome to meet the client’s requirements and complete to specification.
Managing potential environmental issues included the installation of a 3000 litre spill tank to capture oil spills from transformers.
The dangers of working near a live rail track were monitored and managed under the guidance of the CivilTeam Occupational Health and Safety Manager.
Value Adding
CivilTeam was awarded this project on the basis of our ability to mobilise almost immediately and adhere to a tight time schedule. We met both conditions, and even came in slightly ahead of time.
