Project Profile

Project Construction of Two Steel Water Reservoirs Location Moree, NSW Client Moree Plains Shire Council Contract Value $5.7m Construction Period April 2008 to April 2009

Construction of Two Steel Water Reservoirs

Description

This project involved the construction and commissioning of 2 x 30m high, 10m diameter steel water reservoirs at separate locations within the town of Moree, NSW. These works were part of the council’s ongoing water supply upgrade.

Works

  • Foundation earthworks
  • Inlet and outlet pipework
  • Mass concrete foundations
  • Concrete king beams
  • Access roads
  • Fabrication and erection of 30m high steel tanks (10m dia)
  • Telemetry systems

Challenges

  • Storm damage to a major steel segment
  • Local specialist subcontractor availability
  • Co-ordination of multiple subcontractors

Our Management

During this project we worked closely with the steel fabrication contractor, as the tanks were the critical factor on this project.

Storm damage during construction to a 2m x 10m diameter steel plate section required rework off site in Melbourne. To minimise programme disruption CivilTeam rearranged the works program in order to mitigate the delay associated with new steelwork.

To undertake the complex fabrication of the tanks, CivilTeam sourced specilaist subcontractors from outside the region. In this way, we best managed the project quality and safety aspects related to working at heights. Where possible, we employed local labour to engender good local relations.

Value Adding

Resourceful management and strong communications delivered the project on time and within budget.
