Replacement of Four Bridges in Kyogle Shire

Description

This project involved the design and construction of four multi-span precast concrete bridges in the Kyogle Shire, NSW. The contract also required the demolition of the original wooden bridges.

Works

  • Demolition of four timber bridges
  • Design of replacement bridges
  • Foundation earthworks
  • Reinforced concrete foundations
  • Bridge construction—pile driving, headstock and abutment placement, precast deck placement, gabion retaining structures, reno mattresses
  • Temporary relocation of electricity, water and Telstra services
  • Approach slabs
  • Drainage works
  • Guardrails

Challenges

  • Quality issues in the pre-cast elements
  • Subcontractor Management
  • Environmental Management

Our Management

CivilTeam’s partnership approach with all project stakeholders resolved issues early and delivered the works safely and in line with the client’s environmental and quality standards.

CivilTeam maintained a high level of environmental management across all four sites, minimising disturbance to the surrounding area during construction.

Value Adding

Despite some interface issues the project was finished on time and within budget, demonstrating CivilTeam’s ability to manage bridgeworks to a high standard.

CivilTeam initiated geotechnical testing which demonstrated that additional pile depth (and hence splicing of precast concrete piles) would not be required to achieve ultimate bearing capacity.

CivilTeam’s action resulted in a considerable saving in time and costs to the client.
